The Curriculum
If you are attending any school or college we will work with your teachers so that you can continue your normal curriculum as best as possible while you are in hospital. Being a small team of teachers we are experienced in teaching most subjects up to GCSE level and some up to A Level. Take a look at the section of the website to see what subjects we all enjoy teaching. However; there are times that our pupils come to us studying subjects such as Japanese. In these instances we will facilitate your learning the best we can while working together with your mainstream teachers who can point us all in the right direction!
You will be able to discuss with you teachers where in your timetable you will be studying which of your subjects. A good idea is to download your timetable from this page so that you can tailor it around your individual programme of study; we can help you with this.

Alternative Curriculum
Nant y Bryniau endeavors to offer all young people at NWAS an experience within the school day that matches their individual needs. For some, the traditional, conventional school based curriculum will not be appropriate or adequate, at NyB we strive to provide a tailor made, individualized experience that makes attendance in education meaningful and worthwhile.
-
All programs of study will be negotiated with young people.
-
Where possible elements of programs of study will be accredited.
-
A range of practical opportunities will be offered: eg music, cookery, gardening, art, crafts and PE
-
PSE and life skills, social skills and wellbeing activities and groups will be offered.
-
Work with Kate Wright and the Careers Wales representative will be offered to encourage Next Steps of academic or vocational direction.
-
Where staff expertise and interest exists individual interests will be encouraged.
-
Programs of study will be individualised.
